At Vector Group Charitable Trust, we believe that true community resilience is built from the ground up. Our Initiate Kai Resilience project is more than just a gardening program; it is a strategic response to food insecurity, designed to empower our residents with the tools and resources to sustain themselves.
This growing season, we are thrilled to announce a significant milestone. Through our dedicated food arm, Grow Te Puke, we have successfully delivered 4,756 plants into the community. This initiative works in harmony with our broader ecosystem of local support, including the tropical plant expertise found at Troppo, to ensure our region stays green and productive.
Moving from Dependency to Sovereignty By providing the means to grow fresh produce at home, we are helping families move away from a model of emergency food assistance toward long-term food sovereignty. Beyond the seedlings, our logistical teams have been working hard to deliver a diverse range of fresh, healthy kai to those in need, including:
Nutritious Staples: Onions, leeks, lettuces, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
High-Value Crops: Avocados, bananas, guavas, and elephant garlic.
Protein & Spice: Fresh eggs and homegrown chillis.
This holistic approach ensures that nutrition is accessible to all, regardless of economic barriers. We invite you to learn more about our community development initiatives and how you can support this vital work by visiting the Vector Group website.
