Well, a big shout-out to all the local green thumbs! I spent some time today at the Te Puke Community Garden, tackling a familiar enemy: weeds. Specifically, those pesky invaders trying to take over the sides of our vegetable bins!
It felt great to make a proper start on this, moving in the right direction to avoid the use of chemical sprays in the future. As a community garden, we are all about being as green as possible, and that means absolutely no glyphosate or similar harsh chemicals. Keeping our soil and our produce healthy and natural is our top priority.
We got stuck in with our battery-powered tools—the battery weedeater and the battery mower did an excellent job of tidying things up. They’re not only quieter but, again, a cleaner option than their petrol counterparts. We were making great progress… until nature decided to intervene!
Unfortunately, the skies opened up, and we got absolutely rained off and soaked to the core. It was a bit miserable at the time, but honestly, it’s a small price to pay for supporting this fantastic cause.
It’s truly inspiring to see the local passion for growing and to be a part of a movement that prioritizes sustainable, healthy gardening practices right here in Te Puke.
Keep growing, everyone! And Angela, I hope this is to your liking! 😉
