Lineage & mandate
Kai resilience at Vector Group is not a recent add-on: it reaches back before 2000, through Daisy’s Inc, Godfuel, and Vector Group Holdings, with a major shift in 2011 through Pāpāmoa community gardens and Owen Takuira-Ngaropo. See Pātaka Kai lineage and our Western Bay public record.
Kai means food. Kai resilience means communities that can feed themselves through local growing, sharing, knowledge, and ecological intelligence — practical, community-led, and uniquely possible in Te Puke’s climate.
This work runs across our five programmes — especially youth, community, and shared-identity grower communities. It is a major focus, not a sixth registered programme.

The Bay of Plenty’s warm, largely frost-free climate supports tropical and subtropical food plants many New Zealanders have never grown.
