At Vector Group Charitable Trust, we believe true community resilience is built from the ground up. Our Initiate Kai Resilience project is more than a gardening programme — it is a strategic response to food insecurity, designed to give residents practical tools and resources to sustain themselves.
This growing season we reached a significant milestone. Through our food arm, Grow Te Puke, we delivered 4,756 plants into the community. The initiative works alongside our wider ecosystem of local support — including tropical growing expertise at Troppo and troppo.nz — to keep our region green and productive.
By providing the means to grow fresh produce at home, we help families move from emergency food assistance toward long-term food sovereignty.
Beyond seedlings, our teams have also delivered a diverse range of fresh, healthy kai to those in need, including:
This holistic approach helps make nutrition more accessible, regardless of economic barriers.
