A Day of Unity and Joy: Te Puke’s Nagar Kirtan Parade Shines Bright

What a truly magnificent day for Te Puke! On Saturday, 27 September 2025, our community came alive with the vibrant, spirit-lifting Nagar Kirtan — Sikh Parade. The air was full of unity, warmth, and shared joy — a day to remember for everyone who attended.

From the moment the parade stepped off at 11 am from 26 No. 3 Rd, it was clear this would be special. The weather smiled on Te Puke — warm and bright — and the turnout was phenomenal, with locals and visitors lining the route to witness and take part in this beautiful Sikh tradition.

Nagar Kirtan means “singing of hymns in the neighbourhood” — a powerful expression of love, compassion, equality, selfless service, and inter-faith harmony. Today, that message resonated across Te Puke. The procession was a feast for the senses, led by the saffron-robed Panj Piare (the five beloved of the Guru), followed by the Guru Granth Sahib on a float — a profound symbol of the Sikh faith.

Streets including sections of Atuaroa Ave, Pacific Coast Highway, and Jellicoe Street became a river of devotion and celebration. Devotional hymns filled the air, bringing people from all walks of life together in one vibrant cultural moment.

Heartfelt thanks to the Bay of Plenty Sikh Society and the Tauranga Western Bay Community Event Fund for making this event possible — and for bringing such faith and community spirit to our town.

Capturing the day was Vector Group Charitable Trust through Te Puke Digital — photography, video, and drone footage to preserve the parade, the turnout, and the community spirit for posterity. We look forward to sharing that work and the true essence of this magnificent day.

The parade concluded at the Gurudwara, with prayers and communal kai — a beautiful culmination that reinforced togetherness and selfless service at the heart of the Sikh faith.

Te Puke showed its welcoming nature and community spirit. The Nagar Kirtan was more than a religious procession — it was an affirmation of diversity, respect, and the bonds that connect us.
