Well, a big shout-out to all the local green thumbs! I spent some time today at the Te Puke Community Garden, tackling a familiar enemy: weeds — especially the pesky invaders trying to take over the sides of our vegetable bins.
It felt great to make a proper start, moving in the right direction to avoid chemical sprays in future. As a community garden, we aim to be as green as possible: absolutely no glyphosate or similar harsh chemicals. Keeping our soil and produce healthy and natural is the top priority.
We got stuck in with battery-powered tools — the battery weedeater and battery mower did an excellent job tidying things up. Quieter than petrol, and a cleaner option too. We were making great progress… until nature intervened.
Unfortunately, the skies opened up and we got absolutely rained off — soaked to the core. Miserable at the time, but a small price to pay for supporting this fantastic cause.
It’s inspiring to see local passion for growing and to be part of a movement that prioritises sustainable, healthy gardening right here in Te Puke.
Keep growing, everyone! And Angela — I hope this is to your liking! 😉
