A Culture of Safety, A Legacy of Giving

The team at Vector Group Charitable Trust would like to extend immense gratitude to everyone at Ballance Te Puke, with a special thank you to Van den Berg, for their generosity and community spirit.

We were honoured to receive a $500 donation through Ballance’s admirable Safety Cross initiative — a powerful example of commitment to health and safety in the workplace.

The Safety Cross is more than a chart on a wall; it is a living record of daily dedication to keeping people safe. To achieve a green cross, the Ballance team meets monthly safety targets, including:

  • Daily safety checks: Consistent pre-start checks so equipment and workspaces are safe.
  • Safety conversations: Meaningful discussions, sharing near hits, and spotting hazards before incidents happen.
  • Reporting: Actively reporting near hits and minor incidents so the team can learn and improve.

This collective effort builds a culture where everyone looks out for one another. We also thank Johan Van den Berg for a personal tour of the Te Puke branch — it was fascinating to see the vital work they do and the Safety Cross in action.

That dedication has a ripple effect in the community. Ballance Te Puke’s achievement — and their choice to support us — reflects strong values. The donation will directly support our work in Te Puke, helping us continue making a positive impact for those we serve.

Thank you again, Ballance Te Puke. Your commitment to safety is a beacon, and your generosity helps us build a stronger, healthier community. We look forward to future collaborations at community events.
