Vector Group Charitable Trust is proud to highlight the work of Shona Ua-Marsh — a remarkable leader whose commitment to community and collaboration aligns with our mission. As founder of Giggles Te Puke Early Learning Centre, Shona’s journey is a testament to unity and collective action. Her core values — aroha (love), whanaungatanga (relationships), and kotahitanga (unity) — drive everything she does.

Shona’s story is one of profound resilience. Through immense challenges, including the loss of her parents and her own battle with cancer, she has leaned on her whānau and community. She lives by the whakataukī: “Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini” — my strength is not mine alone but comes from the many. That belief sits at the heart of her work, partnering with tamariki, families, and local iwi to create an inclusive, welcoming environment.

Her centre’s holistic approach fosters belonging for every child, celebrating diverse cultural identities. Shona’s commitment extends beyond the centre through Whatu+Co, developing kaupapa Māori educational resources.

One of her most innovative tools is Te Whare o te Auahatanga (The House of Creativity) — ideal for community and volunteer events. Made from recyclable cardboard, it invites children to engage with mātauranga Māori through art and storytelling, promoting creativity and cultural connection. Supporting this tool helps volunteers facilitate meaningful activities that reinforce shared values.
